I want to join a swap or BOM. I'm a new quilter so my skills are not up to par for probably most of the people so I'm a little leery of doing a swap. I was thinking that maybe I should join a BOM but I'm not totally sure how they are organized and how to figure out what the block/quilt is supposed to look at. Again, since I"m a novice, I don't want to get too complicated of a pattern as I am just learning how to cut accurately and sew straight. Any suggestions?

Here are all the BOMs that are ongoing here on the board http://www.quiltingboard.com/s-9-1.htm

you can pick out the ones you want to do , skip others until you feel more confident  Also maybe make a sampler quilt ?

If you enjoy reading quilting novels, Creativesheila has a book club,"Quilt Novel Musings" in the diaries & announcement section where we make a block about the book we're all reading. Some members are just now joining. All are welcome.

BOM's are great. My avatar is a BOM that I did a few years ago and just recently finished. I think that they are great for people just starting out.

i would start out with block of the month but i am doing a swap right now and it is so fun some of the blocks you receive back are simple and some more complected. I think it is a great way for a newbie to practice her skills and see what she will be able to do after a lot of practice.
