    Default Warm and Plush

I'm wondering if any of you have tried Warm and Plush batting from the Warm Company. What are your opinions? Is it comparable to using two layers of batting to achieve more quilting definition? TIA

It's all I use now for customer quilts. The only other batting I ever use is Hobb's Heirloom wool. Warm Company says it's 50% thicker than W&N. I find it provides great stitch definition & is wonderful for faux trapunto or nice heavy quilts. Since it is truly 100% cotton (no scrim), it does crinkle more than W&N and is more of a challenge to keep the quilt flat during DSM quilting process -- that's not a concern of mine since I wash mine to crinkle them later anyways. It is cozy & fluffy & absolutely wonderful for baby quilts. When I have time (not sure when that will be), I hope to make myself a lap quilt with it as it is super soft & cuddly.

You do not pre-soak it like W&N since it is only needle-punched & has no scrim, or else it would fall apart in the water, but I have severe allergies to all sorts of chemicals/materials & have not had any issues with W&N. I have quilted as close together as 1/4" for some designs (with an average spacing of 3/4" between quilting lines) with 100% cotton Aurifil thread & am very, very happy with the results.

I bought mine on a 25yd roll from walmart.com with free shipping. It was cheaper even than buying at JAF with 60% off coupons.

Thank you for that detailed response. I think I will try it.

I've used it on a couple of quilts, and really like it. The only thing to remember is it makes for a heavier quilt. Nearly twice as heavy as using regular W&N. But it sure quilts up pretty!

I have a sample of it. It reminds me of Hobbs 80/20 in loft. I love Hobbs 80/20 so I'd probably like it too. I don't think it's quite as thick and heavy as 2 layers of WN might be, but it would be nice.

I somehow got a sample when it first came out. I used it on a quilt, then purchased a whole bolt!... I love it. As others said, it really provides a nice quilting definition. Because it doesn't have a scrim, you need to quilt it more densely than W&N, 6" vs. 10". According to their web site, you can pre shrink, but they do not recommend spray basting. I have not tried to pre wash, but I will for my next quilt. I'll report the results.

I would like to try it, but if you can't spray baste (wonder why?), I better not use it as I tend to spray all my quilts I quilt myself.

No spray basting? Does that mean we can't use Elmer's glue either?

I have spray basted my last 2 quilts and used Warm & Plush without any problems. Wonder why they would say that?

Per The Warm Company, "Basting spray is not recommended for use with Warm & Plush, as repositioning the top and bottom fabrics will pull apart the cotton."
