I am planning a quilt for my granddaughter of the states we visited on vacation with her. I'm having trouble locating a Washington, DC block. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can't find a DC block, perhaps you could applique a picture of the white house or some other building that you visited. A map might be another suggestion.

How about a court house steps block, to represent the Lincoln Memorial? Or one of the other sites with a lot of steps you may have visited?

Here's one but it will cost 99 cents unless you can figure it out. It looks fairly simple: http://www.equiltpatterns.com/quiltp...roducts_id=309

Penny Halgreen has a video of a block she calls, "Washington's Puzzle". Wonky 9 patch is what it looks like: http://www.howtodothings.com/video/w...-quilt-pattern

I love the idea of courthouse steps since there are steps up into all of those old buildings.

There are traditional blocks with names like Capital Star, National Star, My Country, Old Glory, Union, Union Star, Union Block, Union Square, Washington Star, Washington Pavement, Washington Sidewalk, etc. Any of those might work for you.

Thanks to all for the great Washington, DC suggestions. Now I have even more to ponder!

If you're feeling adventurous, try putting together a "map" of the DC subway system. My nephew has a T-shirt from the Metro Authority and he loves it.

If you have a picture of a place you and she enjoyed seeing, you could print it out on a fabric block. You can get the sheets at Joann's...

I am a fan of applique. I did a block in which I appliqued a scene from Arlington Cemetary. There are a lot of landmarks one could applique.
