Hi, I was wondering what kind/brand of water soluble stabilizers you liked & used. Also, I had heard that you could save up your stabilizer scraps, then add them to a spritz bottle with water and use that. Does anyone know the amounts of stabilizer scraps to water? I am kind of new to embroidery and still figuring out when to use tear away / water soluble / etc.

I BUY MY WS FROM HANCOCKS ON THE BOLT, WORKS JUST AS WELL. i'VE USE 505 TO PATCH WHEN NEEDED OR TO CREATE A 2ND LAYER, SAVE THE SCRAPS FOR THIS AND ALSO TO DISOLVE IN WATER TO ACT LIKE STARCH IN FSL, ETC

I went up there just now and they have two now, I didn't have a problem with either one. I hope you get it, its really good. of course it's for those two brands of stabilizers but what really counts is when you need what kind. also, emblibrary.com also has great tutorials. I've gotten so that I check out all of the tutorials on each site.

Thanks for those links! Something to save for the future as I know I will be having questions about stabilizers since there seem to be so many different kinds out there.

I suppose if you dissolve it in water it would act like a starch. I only use it for machine embroidery, not for stabilizing fabric.

I use Vilene bought by the roll from www.allstitch.net. Packaged brands are too costly and some of the name brand products are just this stuff with a label on it. I also use the cut away they sell by the big roll. Some of the Pellon stabilizers are pretty good, I buy them by the bolt from Walmart.com.

I use the pellon brand from Joanns and buy it by the bolt with a coupon or when on sale. I am a hand quilter and I mark my design on the stabilizer then pin it to my quilt top . It is easy to hand stitch through and when finished it washes out. Makes it very easy to see my design for quilting especially when there are several colors that are hard to see when using marking tools. I have tried using the scraps desolved in water as a spray starch but the smell was awful and I dumped it. I know others have not had this problem but I did and the solution had not been sitting around so that was not the reason.
