I had a panel which I used in the center of a quilt. I had to tweek it a bit because it was printed askew. I had a lot of problems getting the the panel squared off without ruining it but did encounter problems with getting the quilt to lie flat. I bring this up because I have another panel I want to turn into a quilt. ANy suggestions?

You can block it first. Dampen the panel with water or a water starch mixture. Depending on the size of the panel, use pins to pin it down to your carpet (put a sheet underneath if you used starch), or tape it down on a counter, or if it's small enough, pin to your ironing board cover. Gently square the panel as you secure it. Let it dry before removing.

I would block the panel first, using lots of starch to keep it in place. Once layered, I would also do a *lot* of quilting to ensure that the fabric is stabilized to the batting. Batting is more stable than fabric (at least in terms of skewing), so permanently "glueing" the fabric to batting with quilting stitches is the best way to ensure that the quilt lies flat. If there isn't enough quilting, the panel will try to distort back to how it came off the manufacturer's rollers and will pull the batting along with it.
