    Default Shipping Quilts

I gather a lot of people ship their quilts all over the country, either to quilters or the recipient. Here in Canada postage is brutal. So the smaller the package the better.
My sister took 3 full sized quilts back to BC in a regular suit case along with all her original stuff. We packed them into a vacuum bag we bought at the dollar store. They compressed down to less than two inches. We had to open it once though, to check they were alright. The trick was to fold them down to the correct dimensions. I have been taught to fold and store my quilts folded on the diagonal so there are no fold lines set into them.

What a great idea. I've never used the vacuum bags but now I will.

That is just brilliant. I always thought those bags were very expensive. Never thought to look at the $ store.

It would never had occurred to me to fold quilts on the diagonal.

How much difference in weight is there after compressing the quilt? I get that if there is less packaging materials, the overall weight would be less.

I would not trust the postal system with any quilts. I did ship 5 by U.P.S. and they made it there just fine. Otherwise I give to local people.

Great idea. Our rates keep going up but I know that Canada's rates are worse.
