can anyone tell me what weaver's cloth is? I bought a punch needle for punch embroidery and it says for best results use weaver's cloth. I'm using muslin and I'm satisfied but wonder what it is. I had a needle years ago about the size of a cigarette and used 1-2 strands of floss. This one is more like a cigar and uses pearl cotton.

Well, about the only help I can give you is to lead you to a web site that sells it....I thought maybe it was like aida cloth but I'm still not sure! LOL Here is one site...I think it gives a good description.

that's not stupid.......... it's a hollow needle that the thread goes through and you punch it into the fabric, pull out and slide to the side and do it over and over. it makes little loops, like terry cloth. I'm doing a chicken to go in my quilt

I didn't want to sound stupid when I asked, so I've been to the site and read the comments and I am still lost....

I really liked the one comment that said here goes stupid...so here I go:

When you punch the thread/yarn whatever through the cloth and make the design, are you making an applique? And then putting said design on top of a quilt top and sewing on? Is it done for the design effect or does the punching the stuff through make a 3D effect? I am lost.

it's raised, I guess it might look like terrycloth applique, but it's much thicker or heavier woven than terry. I'm doing it directly on the block that will be in the quilt. You know the patches on football jackets, it's like that.
clear as mud? When I get it done I'll post a pic if I can do it from the scanner, I don't have a camera right now.

Now I want to try that. Just more gadgets and ideas to run through my head. fisrst it was quilting, than a new sewing machine and then a frame to go with it, just got the embroidery machine now i want this. You guys are killing me lol

I've done needle punch It is fun! the local quilt shops are selling these patters they come with weaver cloth, it is much like muslin. the kits are fairly expensive. They remind me of minature hooked hooks. very cute. If you look at a recent quilt mag, they show one that is put onto a purse.I think it is the new MaCalls quilter. Enjoy

No, weavers cloth has nothing to do with cross stitching.
It is a cotton/polyester blend that is heavier than muslin but not near as heavy as denim, but has a denim like texture to it.
I have used it to make summer weight slacks and shorts many times.
The only 2 places I have found it have been at JoAnn Fabrics or ETC or at Hancock Fabrics. If you do not have these stores in your area, they both have websites that you can order fabric from.
I can see it being a really great fabric to needlepunch on.
