    what backing would you use?

I am making a DP4 quilt with this fabric and some solid red. I am torn on what color to make the backing. Would solid red be too red? I am afraid using the print will be too much white and then show dirt.. I intend on putting this on the couch so it will get dirty. Any ideas? https://www.fabric.com/buy/0310406/r...-argyle-cherry

This is an older Robert Kaufman fabric that they must have made into flannel. I have the cotton version of this print in my fabric stash. I think it will work perfectly. I always like a busy print on the back of my quilts.

When I first started quilting in 1992, I thought the back had to match the front. Since then I have pretty much used a neutral tone on tone, off white, or cream. I do not get too picky with the back. I am just happy that I have enough to BE on the back.

I would look for a busy, mostly red print with a couple of other colors. I agree that you will have a lot of red going on. Have a look at "Floral Fiesta Canvas" and "Piñata Stripe" on Connecting Threads and see if you would enjoy something like that. Something organic or curvy may offset some of the geometric of the top.

I really like the one westing recommended. I'm really enjoying using fun prints for my backing and making the quilt reversable. I don't think it is too much red at all.

I also use different prints for my backs or do some piecing on the backs. With your quilt design I would probably look for a striped or polka dot print in red, white and black. Or white, black with grey.

I'd use mostly black with white/red pieces.

If it were mine, I would use the black & white chevron.
