Red face What batting have you used that works well for baby quilts?

The free pattern I will use to make the baby quilt is called Speedy Baby 2 by Deslynn Mecham. The size is 45 x 45.

I was thinking about using Quilter's Dream batting in a poly but I wondered about some of the newer earth friendly battings.... Dream Green from recycled bottles or Dream Orient , a blend of bamboo. I am also thinking about Dream Puff for a fluffy look that will not shrink and will not hold a crease.

There are so many options for batting, what has your experience been in choosing batting for baby quilts?

I don't have a LQS so I don't have access to Quilter's Dream product. I use what I normally use in quilts which Hobbs 80/20 cotton batting. Have used it since the product first came out in the 80s.

That's what I use for everything. It's 100% cotton. It's a nod weight for everything. I make microwave bowls and tater bags that have to be all cotton. That way I don't worry about putting the wrong batting in.

There is a non-cotton scrim in W&N. Also, it is NOT the batting to use for microwave items. Not trying to be "lectury" but I don't want you to get in trouble.

I do too but I have found, when pennies are tight that Warm n Natural "Soft n Brite" is a lovely poly substitute and wears and launders well.

Mostly poly batting is mostly all I use. I have made baby quilts and a few other sizes using W&N. I buy high loft poly batting only. I wish the W&N was thicker, I'm not wild about it.

I have had shrinkage problems with warm and natural. What do you do about this?

For baby quilts l usually use fleece for the back it's soft Wash's great and no batting needed.
