Hi...earlier today I posted I was looking for Lily and Will fabric from Moda to order on line....someone kindly directed me to quiltshops.com to find stores.
Now what I am finding is that most stores will only sell the fabric in minimums of half yards.......is this normal or just with moda ?.....there are about 30 different prints in this collection and would have loved to get 1/4 yards in most.....just isn't feasible to buy 1/2 yards...I'd be swimming in left overs !

If a shop is having a huge sale they often say 1 yard cuts. I am ok with that if the price is the same as one yd. Its like getting a yrd for free. I just bought a bunch of Moda for 4.99 a yard it was so cheap so worth me buying the extra half yard.

I've found that a 1/2 yd is the minimum for most fabrics, unless ordering fleece, then it's 1 yd. and yes, you do get a lot of extra, but it's one way to build your stash.

I buy most of my fabric from equilter.com and the 1/2 yard is standard there also.

Have you looked at the on-line fat quarter shop? They usually sell Moda in fat quarter sets.

Yes, it is pretty standard. But some shop are set up with a minmum of a 1/4" or FQ's (or both).

Mind you, you can get a 1/4" cut in person at any of those shops. I think the smaller shops especially are missing out on business by not offering the same online.

When things hit the fan back in 2008, I thought some of the larger sites would offer that - thinking maybe if someone had only $20 to spend but didn't want to order just 4 pieces of fabric, but would have ordered 8 different pieces. A few sites changed but not the really big ones (equilter/hancocks).

It depends on how people shop. Some people buy 10 yards of a fabric. I'll spend the same hundred bucks but I'd much rather have the variety of the 40 pieces. To each his own.

So you have to search each site to see if they allow quarter yard cuts. Just select a fabric, put in .25 - it will tell you if the minimum qty has to be .50.

    Good luck in your search.
