Default What color for the first border?

Made this pinwheel quilt top (OMG what a chore LOL) and now I need to pick borders. The block in the sashing is black with pin dots, and I have a black with polka dots for the #2 border, but can't go straight to that - thinking a solid black. Opinions?

Red or the aqua would be nice. Your quilt is just beautiful.

How much of the pin dot do you have left? i would go with a narrow black pindot 'stop border' like about an inch. then a white border the width of your sashing or a bit wider, then a scrappy piano key to finish it off.

Beautiful quilt! I think any one of your pinwheel fabrics would work. That is how I would decide....which one do I have enough fabric of. If you don't have any left, then I would just go with the color you like best for the inner border. This looks so good! You have to be pleased.

Beautiful quilt! The only colors I'd avoid for the inner border are black (since that's also your outer border color) and white (since that's your background fabric.

I would try to audition several different colors and pick the one you like best. Any of the colors in your pinwheels would probably look great!

Solid black is too harsh, too much of a jolt. I agree with PaperPrincess on the black pin dot for the stop border, and would use the other sashing fabric, the off white print, as the outer border.

Any color in the border is going to detract from the color in the pinwheels and make them less important. You want them to be the focus of your quilt, so let them have all the color. Frame the entire quilt in the same fabrics that you used to frame each block and it will unite the whole thing smoothly.

I always put a border of the background fabric on first when I do pinwheels. It floats your pinwheels.

The white of the white in the background for the border as Scissor Queen said. The pattern will float and look fantastic. I would do the binding in white too. I wouldn't do a black border at all. I don't like borders on quilts that are just wide straight strips but that's just me. Your quilt is very pretty. I like pinwheels.
