What color for frames on small blocks?

I like the gray idea that someone posted above - I think it recedes and will let the blocks shine with the contrast.

you can definitely do two different colors for the different size blocks. I've seen it done and it looks great. Black and white sound good.

The smaller blocks all seem to have blue in them, so I would choose one or more blues to frame them all. Maybe sash with white with blue cornerstones.

I agree that the white is not the best option. I like the idea of putting them on point as that gives you some additional flexibility and would make the top bigger also if that is desired. I would recommend the book Setting Solutions as she has some great ideas. I think a darker color would help keep your blocks the star.
