Default What color of thread do you use to quilt most often?

I want to quilt something that has a lot of colors in it but they are not dark colors. I have tried the clear/invisible thread - but my machine did not like it. I have seen where some use a light grey thread. White seems to show up if you are doing something other than SITD. Just checking on other opinions.

I use an off white on lighter colors and a medium gray for darker colors.

I use light for lighter colors, and grey or black for darker colors. sometimes i'll match the thread to the fabric too.

I use either a variegated thread, light/medium gray or light/medium taupe when I want the thread to disappear on a colorful top

something in the same value that blends well with most of the colors, when you have one you think you like, pull off about a yard and puddle it across the colors, it tells you how much it will stand out or blend.

I agree that grey or beige will likely be your best bet, depending on if you want a warmer or cooler look to the quilt. Just match the value, or go a shade or two lighter than your patchwork. When the thread nests down in the furrows of the quilting, it will darken a shade or two, so if you want it to disappear, go a bit lighter than the value of the top.

Lately, I seem to be hooked on glide's Las Vegas gold. Seems to fit in with a lot of different tops. Just ordered another cone so that I don't run out!!

I have a friend who owns 2 longarms, she quilts about 30 charity quilts a month. She swears by light blue. She said it blends in with every fabric.

My favourite colour for an overall quilting pattern by machine is dark yellow/gold. It just seems to blend and give a richness to the quilt.
