I usually default to white. Sometimes when I'm done I wish I'd been bolder, but white is safe, and no one but me will know I had any other ideas.

I'm working on a quilt now with similar values. I'm using a mid-range pink for the quilting as I want the quilt to be very 'girlie' as it's a baby quilt for a girl. Depends, as others have said, the look you want. The pink is not a 'stand out' color but does coordinate very nicely with all the colors in the quilt and is giving the appearance I want.

Hand quilting or machine quilting? Changing the color of thread is a snap when hand quilting.

Will you quilting design allow you to change colors? I would definitely use a white with the Kona, anything else would be very noticeable and appear dirty. If it is too high contrast for the pastel, you could use an off white or cream for that area.
