Okay some of you I am sure have read my post about the stripe quilt tutorial I wanted to make for my sister but couldn't figure out how to get it to look like all one piece, sooo I have searched and found a quilt pattern that I also love and have purchased to do her quilt. My questions are:
What do I use for the quilt top - it will be white.. (this is my first quilt)

What do I use for backing?

What do you reccomend for the batting- this will be a year round quilt- so I want it warm but not too hot..

I want as much loft as I can get - I assume thats decided with the choice of batting..

I also want this to be a very high quality quilt- no scrimping, any help would be soo wonderful, also if you want to add any suggestions please do!

One more thing, I have a Joannes not to far but I recently had back surgery and cant drive- DH can drive me today- this is his last day off of taking care of me from my surgery- Is there an online store that would have everything I would need and that I can trust is sending me the good stuff or do I need to make the trip, I would love to get out its so painful though, thanks again, you all are sooo wonderful!

okay I will look there but I dont really know what I am looking for, like what to use fabric wise for the white part of the quilt in the pic I posted etc... :? Thanks!

Re the batting, I've just used Hobbs wool in a bed quilt that I'm hand quilting and it's wonderful. Soft, warm and very light. The quilting goes like a dream and the design really pops. :D

Are you near a quilt shop? I would use a simpler pattern. I would not make a quilt with sashing for my first quilt "on my own". Sashing can be tricky to get just right. Sashing is the white fabric between the blocks on the quilt you showed us. If you were in a beginners class you would be able to get help on lots of issues and be encouraged by other newbies too. Have you used a rotary cutter before? Do you have a machine with a 1/4" foot? Do you know the difference between ironing and pressing? I learned so much from my 2nd quilting class and I have used those same golden nuggets to teach friends here in my home. I hope you heal up well and don't push ourself too hard.

As far as fabric online I have a friend that bought from Thousands of blots. com and she was thrilled. Lots of batiks and it all comes to you labled and beautifully wrapped in tissue. They also are very nice to speak with!

If you look at the picture I can see that its quilted (hand or machine) after the blocks are placed but I need to know what material I need to buy for the white area (the area that the blocks are attached to) and what to use for the back of the quilt- Im really new at this, I know someone suggested muslin for the back - but would that work for the front. Also with the wool- does that make it a pretty heavy quilt? Thanks for your help Please keep the answers coming I really want to get the stuff today :)

I have sewn before, Ive made many rag quilts, used rotary cutting many times, I ordered the 1/ foot for my machine, and I dont have a quilting store nearby. I talked to the lady that made the pattern and she stated that beginners have done it- per the feedback beginners say they were able to do it - I would love to take a class but there is no where close and due to my surgery I cant drive. This pattern was the only thing I could find that I liked as much as the spring string quilt pattern on purl bees tutorial...but it looked like two twins sewn together and I want it to flow, anyway- I will try thousand bolts, again I need some suggestions for the sashing?? Thanks for all your help.

The wool is as light as thistledown. I'd use it for everything if it wasn't so expensive. :? :D

Wool batting makes a very light, but warm quilt. When I want a white background I ask for the fabric the quiltshop calls "snow". I have used it
with the 30's reproduction fabrics and it looks great. I think most quilt shops or online shops would know what I mean. Good luck. It is a very pretty pattern. I agree that sometimes it is hard to get all of the seams to match, but perfection is not everything. Making the quilt for someone you love is the most important thing to think about. I have used muslin many times for the back of my quilts. I love to be able to see the stitching on the back and it shows up well with muslin. Buy a good grade of muslin though because some of it can be pretty flimsy.
