    Default What do you call.....

If you use a piece of fabric when starting a seam and ending the seam, ( so your fabric doesn't get sucked down into the black hole) lol
What do YOU call these little bits of fabric?

    I have heard:
    Leaders & Enders
    Starties & stoppies

    Just curious

I call them leaders and enders because that's what Bonnie Hunter calls them, and she's the first quilter I knew who used that system.

Thank you, thank you! This has been driving me nuts! I use a small thin piece...but then have trouble "removing" it. Is there a trick to it?

    Anniedeb, You cut it loose?

If u use a piece as a starter, it will be at the beginning, then the last piece will run up under your feed dogs like it should when sewing, just let it run on out and cut it off.

One of those "well duh" moments! I sometimes use the strips to "get" the pieces going...then I would try to "remove" it because "it didn't belong...didn't think of just leaving it, or cutting it off! I learn something here every day!...and night!

    Leaders and enders.

I don't use them. I just hold onto the threads as I start sewing.

Ditto. Bonnie talks about how she uses gets more than one quilt done that way, but I have enough UFOs, thankyouverymuch.
