I'm trying to find a pattern for a sewing related item, and I just can't think of the word/s to use to start my search.

Several generations ago it was quite common to these things. They were made of fabric, folded into thirds, and contained your needles, scissors, thread, pins, and sewing related bits and pieces. Kind of like a mini sewing box.

I've been racking my brains for days trying to remember what they are called. Can anybody help?

Not sure this is what you want - etui . It is french for a small box or object which holds objects. Sorry, cannot help you otherwise. Maybe you could find what you want in 'sewing and sewing crafts'.

I was just looking at my pattern file and found a pattern from McCalls..for a potfolio with an organizer bag for sewing..The pattern number is M5120. I think that if you google McCalls and the pattern number you may be able to see the pattern picture on line.
I hope this helps you...maybe you could find a free pattern..google
sewing organizer or sewing portfolio pattern.
Blessings

sewing kit ? needle saver?... Sorry, but that's all I call mine. I have an old one (a tri-fold tied with a ribbon) from Sweden, that holds, needles, thread, and has a couple pockets for storing perhaps floss or small pair of scissors?
I like the French term, but...

Can't find a free pattern, but here is one that you can purchase.

Is this the type of thing you are looking for?

Here us another site with pic and sketchy info on how it was made perhaps this would help get you started and you could figure it out from there.

cpfrog is in the right track.

The etui - is usually a box/cardboard type thing. That isn't what I'm looking for.

I'll try searching for a sewing organizer.
