You didn't get a darning foot?? It is a foot that sort of hops up and down.

Leah Day, who is a fantastic FM quilter, modifies her feet so they don't 'hop' as seen here, as well as showing how to fit it. She also has a video on YouTube which shows it in action.

I learned to FMQ on a Janome, but now have a Pfaff where the foot just hovers above the fabric - the difference is amazing, so it might be worth considering the adaptation. Happy quilting
Lang may yer lum reek. (I'm a knitter - hence - 'Knit-ette'. Confuses a lot of people!)

Flowegurl - what Magnolia do you have? I didn't get a darning foot with mine. But I tried FMQ last weekend, I gave up because it couldn't get it to work. I am wondering what the secret is. (I can FMQ on my Janome 6600, but my Magnolia seems to be finicky)

I had a clear and a metal darning foot but ended up getting a little foot big foot after being frustrated with not being able to see where I was going. What a difference it made!! For me the bottom part of the shank (I guess you'd call it shank) being clear helped also.

I too am getting very frustrated with not being able to see where I am going fmq. I am currently using a clear c shaped open darning foot. What do you mean by a little foot big foot? I am a newbie to quilting.
