Had the job you are currently going to be doing but we split it and one person handled the speakers and another set up retreats. I was the retreat person. One tip is to book speakers not for the year you will be doing the job but a year ahead or more. When you check their calenders on their web pages you will see that they book a couple of years in advance if they are really popular speakers. Enjoy your time.

From another job I had, I knew all the LQS owners locally. They were an amazing and encouraging group. I could find more than enough local quilters/designers to do programs.

One of my quilt groups has a great budget, so they try to get national teachers twice a year. You will need a year advance planning for most of these folk, but they are willing. Maybe you could coordinate with another guild or LQS to share the cost of bringing the teacher to town. Or, as in this group I am in, have the teacher do a weekend class and charge for it.

Keep good records.

The most frustrating things:
-whoever set up the program doesn't always get the credit for the arrangements.
-members make suggestions that aren't followed up in a timely manner so they quit giving the program chair ideas.
-the program chair doesn't acknowledge help received.
