What I used instead of a design wall.....
#12
So far, since I'm just doing small sizes, I've not had to have a design wall, but the tablecloth is probably the way I would go. I also have used my cardbord cutting pad in the past with upholstery tacks. That worked also. Another idea for the cutting pad that worked great for me, when sandwiching a crip quilt, was to lay the pad on the bed and use those alligator clips to hold the edges of the batting, backing and top tight while I pinned.

Thanks for the kind words! I have used my cardboard cutting thing covered with a flannel sheet as a design wall...it works well for small areas. I needed to see the entire quilt to match circles though. Some day after we move I will have a huge design wall that I can stand back & look at. Until then we just make due, right?
