I want to make a tablerunner and matching placemats. What kind of batting should I use? Do I need to use something like for a pot holder just in case I give it to someone who sets something hot on it. I'd hate for a gift to cause a house fire. LOL

You could us the insulated batting if you're more comfortable with it.

For tablerunners and placemats I would use Hobbs Thermore, it insulates. Insulbrite is also used in potholders is has a silver insulating sheet in it. They both quilt very nicely.

Good thinking!! I use the insulated batting for potholders and hot pads, but never thought of it for the table runner!!

I have made a number of table runners and always used only warm and natural. I have never quilted on the Insulbrite....has anyone ?????

I have quilted with Insulbrite, machine quilting. It works just fine.

i use insulbrite in my potholders~~i have this "pellon thermolam plus heavy needled fleece" that is 100% polyester that i have been using in table runners. its dense and lays flat. do you think something like that would be okay for a kitchen table? a plate wouldn't melt it, would it? i wonder if i should use a cotton/poly? any suggestions? at any rate, i have always been told to use a dense and low loft batting in the middle so things like cups and glasses wont tip and it will lay flate. i sure hope this helps you out. everything you do is gorgeous, post pics whenever you get them done!

I use insulbrite in pot holders and hot pads but I always use flannel in my table runners and placemats. I like the way they lay flat and drape better than any batting I have found. I always prewash fabric and certainly prewash flannel in verly hot water. I iron the flannel and starch it, use 505 spray and quilt as usual. They turn out very nice.

I just am finishing a table runner and used the warm and natural. You don't want anything too bulky for batting as a glass set on it can turn over.
