I'm wanting to make us a quilt and like the primitive look. I don't want to do another rag quilt but want something I can use my homespun and muslin with.

I was making the pinwheel blocks, but they're on the bias and homespun is so easily distorted as it is, so am trying to think of a quilt pattern that would keep it from stretching so badly.

Do ya'll have any ideas?

Did you do a search here using the word primitive? That may help you.

Hole In The Barn Door is a classic pattern. It would make a good primitive look.

Have you tried heavily starching the homespun? I found it really makes a difference with homespun fabric. And if you make pinwheels try putting the two squares right sides together and then sew a quarter inch around. Then cut from corner to corner. Hope this helps :)

To start with I would go with an old pattern like Log Cabin, nine patch, etc. The list is endless.
I also thought that Civil War reproduction fabrics would make a nice primitive look.
Just some thoughts ........ :)

Jan Patek does primitive quilts. more homespun and maybe houses, odd looking birds, etc.

I just had another thought. How about doing a primitive applique? If this interests you, I think I have a pattern for one. I'll look it up.

Dashton4 just posted a picture of a quilt done with homespuns & some raggedy edged bunnies. Very cute & nice use of homespuns. I would say the bunnies are done in a primitive way.

Do you think it's because I'm making my pinwheels so big? Mine are 12". If I made them smaller maybe that might help..
