Default What is a "Red Bird" appliqued quilt?

I have a friend who said her husband's mother used to make Red Bird quilts. He was 78 in August and said he never got one of her quilts. I've never heard of one. Is there a pattern or can someone tell me how to look it up online. I've looked up red birds, vintage quilts, appliqued quilts, etc. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks for all your input.

I've never heard of this particular quilt pattern nor could I find it on the internet. It may be what his mother called it. I googled "red bird appliqué quilt" and got this link with a whole bunch of pictures. You could show it to him and see if something is familiar. https://www.google.com/search?q=red+...&bih=672&dpr=1

I love the applique patterns in the site Inez Ruth referenced. Some of the patterns are really awesome.

There is a red bird pattern on eBay it is 5 nine patch blocks with 4 cardinals appliquéd on the other 4. Also there is a fabric made by moda I think called ' red bird in the bowers ' I had to purchase some my surname is bowers. Very much a garden theme.there are plenty of paper pieced patterns or applique of cardinals.

That sounds more likely to me, especially coming from that time period. Good thinking, maryquilting!

I never heard of it either, but my first thought was "red work", but I'm new at this so I may be all wet. LOL. Good luck!
