I have Omnigrid and Omnigrip. Some rulers are actually off just a teensy bit and that can make a lot of difference in a quilt. Try sticking with the same brand if you can.

Gosh! I've never heard of OmniGrids!!! My favorites are June Tailor brands. They have different colors of markings for different widths (1/8" = red, 1/4" = teal, and 1/2 & 1" are black).

If you've used it a lot, put it against something straight - a bow/curve/arc may have been worn/eroded into the ruler.

That happened to a couple of mine. Couldn't figure out why I had a curve in the fabric when I moved the ruler. Cuz the ruler had a curve in it. It wasn't much - maybe 1/16 of an inch, but it bugged me.

I've tried stacking my rulers on top of each other to compare markings. Usually they match - once in a while they don't.

I have lots, too, collected over the years, but the lipped ones are my current favorite, For strip piecing, I like one with angles of 45 and 60 marked clearly, and I also like the square ones with a second square opening.

I still remember my first - It was a Salem Rule. Are they still made?

I've never seen a 36-5/12 inch ruler. Where did you get it?

Oh - rulers. I have the yellow/black printed ones in 6X12, 6X18 and 14 square. Then I have assorted black or blue printed ones in 6" square, triangles, circles, little suares with lip.....I don't know why I have so many. I'm sure they come in handy sometimes.

When in doubt, I use my drafting tools from days gone by.

As far as rules go....I sometimes skirt them, often break them, and generally observe the ones that keep me part of the QB.
