We just had a Walmart Super Center that opened yesterday in Mt.Pleasant, MI as well as a Sam's Club.
(Makes me wonder what they will do with the big one they just remodeled not too long ago)
I called the store and asked if this new Super Walmart had a fabric dep't.
The lady replied, "Yes, we do!" She went on to tell me that Walmart had recieved so many calls that they were going to continue with the fabric dep'ts.
Some of those that have been removed will be getting them back.
This made my day! I love that $2.00 per yard fabric. It's good enough for my quilts. But then, I remember the fabric feed sacks from when I was a kid. They were nice AND FREE to boot!

dare we believe? it would be so nice to see the racks full again in our local WM fabric dept. the few bolts left look so lonely and forlorn. and the ladies who work there were just as upset about the changes as we were.

I went to my local Walmart last week and came right out and asked if they were going to discontinue and she told me no, not as long as I keep coming back! LOL Was glad to hear that "mine" wasn't one that was doing that and even more glad to hear they are all going to continue...hope it is true for those of us that use their materials!

Wow! I hope it's true. I was in there last weekend, and the shelves were full of fabric. The ladies there haven't got the news yet.
I wish they would get back some of the notions , they cut that way back last fall, to put in more scrapbooking stuff.
This is great news, we all need to go and add to our stash, and don't forget to check for free patterns.

I did my duty this evening. Went grocery shopping at the super Wal Mart and got 3 yards of bleached muslin while I was there. I am going to do "Aunt Hattie's Garden" It is on the McCalls website and uses 30's repro fabrics on a white background. It saved me a trip to JoAnnes on Saturday, and was right around $3.00 a yard, probably what I'd paid for it anyway, but if you factor in the gas, I came out a little cheaper. It felt like the same stuff, so we'll see how it works out.
Still working on the pansies, but they are getting tedious so I am going to start something else and bounce between the 2.

This is wonderful news! I was just at the WalMart "diminishing" fabric department Wednesday and they reiterated they would only be open until January of 2008. They never mentioned anything about fabric departments coming back to any of the other stores. Maybe those gals haven't gotten the good word yet.

I wish I could say the same for my Walmart--they are discontinuing cut fabric in our store in Indian Harbor Beach, FL. I have already called Walmart corporate in hope of saving it. Right now they're having a great sale--all the fabric is 50% off but when it's gone, it's gone unless the customers make enough complaints to save it.

So glad you had success in your area.

The WalMart in my area has decided to continue selling fabric. I think the complaints from customers made the difference.
