I go to a lot of garage and estate sales and use some of the things that I find go into my quilts. I found a scrub with a Snoopy print I have never seen anywhere else, and it made a cute baby quilt. A few years ago I collected embroidery pieces and put them in a quilt. Another time I found a square dance skirt made from Alexander Henry cowboy prints. It had multiple rows of 6-8" strips gathered, which gave me plenty of fabric for a kid's quilt.

I have never used family clothing until now. I am making a Scrabble/crossword puzzle quilt with family members' names for my mother. To border the label, I plan to use the fabric from a pocket off of a bathrobe my father had. The fabric doesn't really "go" with what is on the quilt, but he does!

P.S. My dad died 13 years ago, and I am still using his robe, which is one that my mother made for him. The piping is worn to shreds, and I have mended some of the seams. I think removing one pocket will be ok.[

I've used lining from drapes for base on the strip quilt. Made a throw out of denim jeans.

I use just about anything I can get my hands on for making quilts. I have made & sold several denim quilts out of old jeans. I back them with fleece. They are very warm & everyone loves them. I also make memory quilts out of clothing from people that has lost a loved one. The sky is the limit when it comes to recycling for me.

Well you really out did yourself on re-purposing to make those beautiful quilts. You have done an amazing job with your quilts. I am proud of you showing what can be done.

This is the kind of thread I love to read for inspiration - the miracle-working on display here is tremendous.
Thank you, justflyingin, for your post and for uploading those pictures. Poland is tops on my list to visit, and now you've given me a good idea for what to bring for gifts when I do go...cotton yardage in case I meet other sewists!
