Default What is your thread preference and why?

I've heard a lot of y'all talking about different types of thread you use. Tell me what is your favorite and why?

I have used a lot of different thread fro Superior thread. The thread is guaranteed. King Tut is my all time favorite for FMQ, the colors and variegated thread is just great. They have a very good customer service!

Well, at first I thought, did you mean, Main, General Chit Chat, etc. Tells you where my mind is! Anyway, my machines aren't fussy so I use pretty much anything. Usually coats and clark. No problems with it so far.

LOL!!! I've used Coats and Clark a lot...my last quilt I used Gütermann and absolutely loved it! Wanted to see what others used that I could try.

Stitchnripper, I was worried people would think that...

No favorite. I use any kind of thread I can get my hands on. Sew mostly charity quilts these days. Have an old Bernina and it sews well with anything.

I've used Coats & Clark, not my fave, sometimes has knots. I've used and had good success with Connecting Threads and Threadart. Good prices on both of these. When it goes on sale I'm going to try Gutterman since so many people have suggested it.

I really like Gutterman threads which are strong, easy to use and no messing up my machine ever. Personal preference is what it really boils down to.

I heard a very informative presentation last night at my guild concerning needles and thread. Sue Rasmussen was the lecturer and she makes beautiful quilts. But her discussion on threads made me think way beyond the sale bin at Joanns. I will be paying more attention. One of her award winning quilts - Grizzly, she said she probably used many different types of thread including monofiliment, silk, cotton and rayon. Not sure if she used any wool thread on that one. It was an hour well spent.

You can see the quilt on her website. http://suerasmussenquilts.com/

My favorite thread for quilting is Aurifil. For other sewing, I use either Gutermann or Mettler. I've never had a problem with any of these threads.
