?When hand stitching binding

When you are hand stitching binding do you match the color of your thread with the binding or the backing? Green binding,white backing.

I always match the binding & when it is quite a bit of difference between the colors I make sure that I do the tiniest stitches possible.

I match the binding, but I ladder stitch, so it doesn't show anyway.
