I didn't realize I could sew it on the back first and then do a decorative stitch on front! I learn so much from reading the posts of others who have tried something and found that it works. I may never sew binding by hand again!

Where would I find the tutorial Tartan mentioned? I am almost ready for the binding on a quilt for a two year old little boy and want it to wear well.

Thanks
Judy

i'm like most here, i do a straight stitch. sometimes, or rarely the serpentine if it's a playful type of quilt. (kids).

I prefer the hand finished look but a group of my friends all machine finish . Some do a straight stitch others use decorative stitching.

How about a straight stitch put on with a flat felled foot. Tutorial below:

Trisha, I also stitch the binding to the back and fold over to the front. I have a huge needle about 6 inches long that I use as a stiletto. I put the point of the needle on the line that was sewn. Looks great on the front and the back is almost perfect, just looks like a thicker thread.
