Try Sam's Club. I suspect that any kitchen supply department at Costco or other similar store would have them. And they are relatively inexpensive. The towels at Sam's are so large you will need to cut them in half. I don't think they would be great for embroidery, but I beieve they would be great for the project you are describing. Or, go to the thrift shop and look for those white damask (cotton) table cloths, you can get from 4-8 towels depending on the size of the table cloth for usually two or three dollars. I have made many kitchen dishtowel sets from the tablecloths, they are soft and very absorbent.

aT THE QUILTING EXPO 2 weeks ago, 'all about blanks' was there, i didnot purchase but felt there towels several times, and they were nice and thick, appeared to be good quality.

Pendleton Quilt Works sells them. I just bought three. Google them. They are very nice.
