I'm just a traditional gal, so the 'liberated' pattern's not for me, either. I would like to see what GailG is talking about in the first post. Love anything 9 patch, so that's why I'm interested.

Normally, I do not like the churn-dash pattern. If I were ever to make one, I would flip the four corners around 180º. But I kind of liked this crazy one. Even though, I don't think I would ever make it.

Oh wow, Dunster, that "liberated" churn dash will stay liberated from my studio!! Do NOT like those random, sharp, pointy disturbing things all over the quilt -- I was actually surprised at my immediate visceral reaction to this quilt, haha!! Never thought I'd ever see a quilt I absolutely hated.

Hmm... I like the liberated churn dash quilt. It is most definitely a modern take on a traditional block and as quilts are canvases of art for the creator, not all quilts will appeal to everyone.
GailG there has been a whole churn dash block revival among quilt blogland and the modern quilters. If you google churn dash block (use images) you may find the block you are describing or you can create it yourself. The churn dash block is a 3 x 3 grid so get your graph paper out and start doodling out what your creative mind is seeing for this block. Make up some test blocks as you go along until you have just what you want.
Here is a tute for wonky churn dash. Perhaps this can give you an idea on what can be done for what you want to create. Looking forward to your future post of the block you created.
PS I know with this whole nested churn dash block quilt there is the block with the small corners and large middle. Perhaps that is what you saw.

[QUOTE=Jan in VA;6785716]I found, when your response appeared this morning, that I couldn't even go back and check the picture of that liberated churn dash again!! It makes me feel all weird inside.
Weird how much I do not like that one.
I don't feel that bad about it, but I really don't like it. It looks like the cat got creative with the scraps! froggyintexas
