I'm fairly new to quilting, and have learned already how expensive it is!

I've read on this board that some people purchase fabric via websites, and also from other countries. What are some good websites for buying material at a discounted price? Is it as good of quality?

Thanks!
Jodi

I order from various on-line sites. www.fabric.com runs good sales and is a good place to start :) Enjoy your new hobby!

www.thousandsofbolts.com has quilt shop quality cotton at discount prices... lovely Moda, Northcott, P & B, Hoffmann, Kaufmann, Windham, Marcus and other name brand fabrics. Most fabrics are less than $5 a yard, many are less than $4 a yard.

I buy a lot from Connecting Threads. They have super sales. I like Bayside Quilting, also great sales. I Google quilt fabric clearance sale and get more sites then I need. If I haven't ordered from a site before, I order if the site has a contact telephone number that is answered by a person Marshall's Dry Goods has good customer service.

Up until the New Year's sale yesterday at my local quilt shop, I could have said it was a pretty even mix between my local quilt shop and some of the popular online sites. Yesterday ALL fabric was 35% off, so I think I came home with 22 yards for the next several projects and to supplement my stash...

I brought some back from Denmark last fall (Danish designers) but it was roughly three times the cost of what I can pay for similar fabric here. And I did have to watch out that I didn't accidentally purchase fabric there that I can get here.

Cheers, K

I only buy from local quilt shops. If I am taking the time to make a quilt...I only want to use quality fabric. Once you compare the thread count between the cheap fabrics and that of Moda, Thimbleberries, etc. you will see what I mean. I take advantage of the local quilt shops sales.
