Default Whip stitching over my basting stitches

My pattern calls for me to use freezer paper on my pieces and to fold a 1/4" of fabric over the paper and then use basting stitches to hold it down. later it asks me to come back and whipstitch over the same area before removing my basting stitches. I am finding it difficult to remove my basting stitches after whipstitching over it. any suggestions?

If it is like English paper piecing your whip stiches will be right on the edge, your basting will be farther in and easy to remove. good luck.

Yeah I could do it a little farther in but I don't have much to work with with only a quarter inch of fabric it is very difficult

You don't have to remove the basting stitches, do you. If they are in the seam allowance I would leave them. The whip stitching is right on the edge of your piecing. The basting stitches end up on the back side of the fabric and the whips are on the top. I am assuming you are doing applique.

For better answer, a picture or link to your work or pattern would be very helpful.
hope you get the info you need.
peace

Here is a front and back picture.....please don't laugh...these are strictly practice pieces...I did the whipstitch in green for visibility, but the basting stitch is done in white, which is hard to see on these....I am not experienced at sewing, but this is difficult for me.....probably not a problem for most of you.....Thanks for any ideas.

When they say basting stitch, I believe they are talking about hand basting. You machine stitched, and not with long basting stitches. That's why you are having difficulty removing the stitches.

A basting stitch is long, usually by hand, but many machines have it as a built in.....and if the whip stitch is going to hold the two pieces together, they should be close together.......and small...

Yes, I did machine stitch. I thought it would save me some time, but I guess not. Well, I will learn as I go. Thank goodness I did some practice pieces first.
