Yes, you can fmq with feed dogs up. The movement is a big slower, but I find it helps me keep a decent stitch length. If you get a chance, look up Leah Day. She is awesome at fmq and she also keeps her feed dog up.

What great news! I have watched her but didn't catch that raised feeddog part. Will definitely go back to her videos before I get going. FMQ is so ornate and precise. I'm afraid mine will look like a brillo pad, its a little bit intimidating. At least I have an opportunity to try. Thanks for your imput!
