Has anyone here made a whole cloth quilt? How large was it? Even though I'm only on my 2nd quilt, I'm dreaming of the day when I'll attempt my first whole cloth. I'll likely start small though - around 20 inches square.

I finished a whole cloth quilt several months back. It was a full sized quilt and the hardest part was picking and marking the design. I used freezer paper and butcher paper, marked 1/4 of the quilt at a time working from the paper that I taped to my husbands pool table, laying the quilt top over it, and tracing. After that it was quite easy.
There are lots of books and patterns out there. I used a book from Fons and Porter and they made it a lot easier. It was lots of feathrs and the methods to make your own patterns was easy to follow. If I can dig it out I will send you the name.
You will enjoy the process and the result I feel sure.
Good luck, Pam

Best you make a small item first. I made a queen size and took me 3 years (winters) and I won blue ribbons at quilt shows. It wasn't something I could rush and I made regular quilts in between to keep me sane. Love it but now my arthritis has gotten worse and it is out of the question. Now I am completely limited to what I do as my fingers don't co-operate and do some machine quilting. :P

I bought a whole cloth quilt kit -- it's about 40" wide. The pineapple pattern is already marked. It will be my next "project".... :D

Would love to see a picture of the finished quilt -- that's just gorgeous! Did you do the white quilt with white thread thing? My kit is white and I was thinking about quilting with an off white thread. Would that look dumb??

I did that one with cream on muslin, so it matched. then I did a preprint with contrasting thread and it looked ok but I wasn't as much of a fan. I am gald that one was a small sampler.

Yeah I like that best too. I called my wholecloth "White on White by White" when I entered it into a show.
