    Default Whole cloth quilt top stencils

    I'm cleaning out some closets and have found a number of whole cloth tops, all marked. I only ever completed one, the two swans. I'd like to know how they did those. Were there a series of stencils that fit together? Was it one big stencil? Would like to see what the real names of these patterns are. I have Pansy, Sugar time, Royal Rays etc.

    I'll never get them done in my lifetime unless I do it on a long arm and I have visions of doing them in different threads and add a great deal of enhancement.

    I googled a couple of different ways of spelling and got "The Stencil Company", however these could be very old.

    I do know that that "The Stencil Company" do sell whole cloth stencils. I think they come in a set.

    Holice Turnbow is, among other things, a whole cloth quilt designer. He is a member of this board (member name Holice) but hasn't posted for several years.

    My mother used to buy large pieces if clear tablecloth fabric sold at joanns
    l and make her own whole cloth designs

    Your description sounds like marked wholecloth tops I have seen in Quilt shops in Pennsylvania. I was interested because they looked like they were hand drawn which appeared unusual. I ask the clerk about them and the source. She told me they were hand marked by an Amish quilter who was well known in the area for her whole cloth designs. She went on to say that the designs could be attributed to specific quilters. The quilts were usually custom marked for the customer but the shop had been able to get some to sell. Your tops may be from such a source. Perhaps someone will have more accurate information about your tops.

    I hand quilted one whole cloth quilt, I bought it from The Stencil Company at a Quilt Show. I only used the center design though. It made a beautiful lap quilt for my Mom. I always intended to use the border on another quilt but I never did. It's still in my stash. My Mom passed away so I now have the quilt in my possession. It's one of my very favorite quilts.
