I've just started doing paper piecing (which seems so much easier for those nasty points!) and now I'm looking for a paper piece pattern for a Carpenter's Wheel. My son (who has always loved to make my live difficult ) wants a quilt with that. I have a regular pattern but looking at it, I'm kinda cringing inside thinking about tackling it without paper piecing.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

You can always do a Carpenter's Wheel with half square triangles instead of the diamonds:

I have done a quilt called "Carpenter's Star" by Debbie Maddy of Calico Carriage. This is a 70" square done using large half square triangles and squares. It couldn't be easier or quick. She has a whole line of patterns using HST instead of diamond shapes with set in seams. Please take a look at her website.

    Hi Boo,

I see your name on the postings a lot and you seem to have all the answers. I have a question about the on postings. How do you get the cut little pictures on the side of your postings. Have been all over the site and haven't seen anything on it.

Love the site, have posted a couple of my quilts on there and gotten great feedback, makes me want to jump in and quilt faster and faster. My kids call me turbo needle now because I work long hours and don't stop until I am finished.

would also like to correspond with other quilters from Tucson.

    Thanks

Thank you so much for the picture of block and the link . I have old blocks that my Grandmother made in the 30's or 40's , but didn't know the name of the block. I had asked a few people with no response.

These are so old and fragile there is no way I could try and put it together for a quilt . Just keepsakes I guess !!!

The pic in my Avatar looks like your carpenter's wheel in the center. I didn't know that's what it was. I just started with the star and worked a couple of more rounds out. I did mine with squares and half square triangles. It really was quite easy to do that way. I haven't tried diamonds yet. I think that is my next challenge :)
