I have been to several quilt stores and the fabric is usually pricey. So with that in mind, why go to a quilt store when you can go to JoAnns or Walmart??

i prefer to shop online then go to any stores because i can always find cheaper prices or better quality for the same price online.

I have shopped at all three. I do try to support my LQS because the fabric is usually a better quality. Mostly I like their expertise. They are always willing to help pick out fabrics, help with quilty problems, suggest patterns or projects. I stop in sometimes just to chat.

Often, but not always, the LQS will have fabric of a higher quality. You also should be getting some additional help and direction from the staff at the LQS. The cutters at JoAnn's and WM may not have any quilting experience, let alone sewing experience! I've gotten lovely fabrics at all 3.

I just went to my local quilt store on saturday, I only ever buy notions there as the fabric is way over my budget but i got some good advice there. Thats really why I go. I get some thread or a half yard of some of the cheapest fabric I can find and pick their brains. Because im such a novice, the advice is worth it to me.

I am finding that I am able to find some really nice fabrics online. Many of the suggestions of online stores come from the wonderful quilters here on this forum. I've purchased some good quality fabrics online. I guess one thing about buying online is if you don't get a recommendation you take your chances in what quality you purchase. I can't afford the LQS either.

I usually go just to have a look at what they have. Our LQS isn't too pricey. The last time I was in there I found Micheal miller for $5.99/yd. and it was so nice. I had to get 1 yard.

I go once in awhile to one in Ct just to support them. Also sometimes they have fabrics I can't find at Joann's or Walmart...I do go to another QS in RI because they run reg sales and always have a clearance section very reasonable and they issue a newsltr every mth with coupons...
