Default Wild and Goosey Blocks

For my first attempt at paper piecing, I decided to try some Wild and Goosey (Bonnie Hunter) blocks. It took two hours, and I had to "unsew" a few times. Ended up throwing out two foundation papers. But here they are.

Any suggestions for how to chain piece these? Or how to avoid all the thread waste?

A while ago, I started using some of my (pretty small) scraps for this pattern! Love this block! Sorry, I haven't yet found the solution to the thread waste but will monitor this thread to see if someone else came up with an idea!

Peggy Martin has a method for chain piecing paper pieced blocks. She has a book and she also has a class on Craftsy. I enjoyed it. I like paper piecing projects. I appreciate what you are saying about thread waste. I am always amazed at the paper mess I make when I paper piece. By the way, I think your blocks are very pretty.

I use a machine with an auto thread cutter. That stops all thread waste when paperpiecing and it saves so much time, no thread clipping at all. I usually use vellum paper for bigger piece blocks and wash away paper for small pieced blocks. I really like the leave in Stable Stuff too. When washed it turns to very thin poly, almost like batting scrim.

Nicely done blocks. The only way I can think of in not wasting thread is to chain piece but that is not always a reasonable option with PP.

The best solution I have come out with is to have a small pair of snips and snip the threads before you pull the paper. You can snip closer than your machine's thread cutter can cut.

Pretty blocks! I do try to chain piece, and trim threads before I pull the units away from the machine.
