    Will it bleed?

It's been a work in progress for several years but I've finally finished embroidering a full size top that is one of those with the all-over design from Hershnerrs. Now I'm hand quilting it and see that there are smudges where it's been folded and refolded, handled. When I finish this, I'd like to launder it but have concern that the red and blue floss may bleed. I'd include color catchers in the process but does red and blue floss bleed? Sure hope not with all the hours that have gone into this piece! Anyone with experience with this sort of thing?

If you have some left over floss, lay it on a wet paper towel. That should show you if it will bleed or not. Not all floss is created equal--even the more expensive ones.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down the their level and beat you with experience.

I have never had any DMC floss bleed before but I always use a color catcher. Best invention since sliced bread.

I would check the color first a GingerK suggested. Of course, always use color catchers.

Throw in a couple Color Catchers - if they come out pink - it did bleed - if they come out white - it didn't bleed.

Any pieces like that I've done I've always washed by hand - regardless of size - with just some dish soap and warm water. I've not had issues with any of the floss bleeding. Roll the finished piece towels to get the worst of the water out of the piece and then air dry on an indoor clothes drying rack.
