I'm glad i don't have 1000+ yds. I feel incredibly guilty about all the $$ I spent on the fabric I do have (and will probably never use).

One more suggestion: clip a small bit off the corners of each piece of fabric. Note: I said small corner; some of my students get carried away and make large corner clips. If some of the fabric ravels, it will go only across the fabric once and not create a soft-ball sized knot of threads.

I saw this tip somewhere.... for yardage sew the two raw edges together making a loop of the fabric before washing. One quick seam will keep the edges from raveling and is easily removed afterwards.
Sorry I can't credit the smart person that shared this idea lol

With allergy problems, I would be sure to add a little vinegar to that wash.

I've been prewashing my fabric for years, many, many years; and I have found that I get fewer tangles when I cut the corners off each piece of fabric. Yes, there may be some that get tangles, but when I take them out of the dryer, I just trim them off. It was much easier when we had our own washer/dryer, but now that we're living in an apt., I do a lot of prewashing in my bathroom sink, then hang them over the safety bars in the tub. I like to iron them when they are not quite dry, but it doesn't always work that way, then I spritz the fabric with plain water. Prewashing this way I have discovered fabrics that bleed, ones I hadn't expected to bleed, so I'm glad I prewash.

I do too. Too many chemicals in fabrics.
