I need some help, Please! I am making a quilt and am currently stumped. Part of the quilt uses 4 patch blocks alternating with 6" blocks. Another uses 4 patch triangles. The finished block is 6". I need to know what measurement to use to make the triangles. Hopefully, I will learn the measurements as I need to finish the quilt top this weekend. Any suggestions, welcomed. If you are talking about a quarter square triangle, it would be 7 1/4", but I am not sure if that is what you mean.

I know the lady at www.quiltville.com has a whole chart on sizes for triangles. You might check there. It might be under miscellaneous information.

kind of depends on how many you have to make, how many colors you are using. if real scrappy & using lots of colors--the method that works best is to*** cut 4"sq @ color, R sides together, draw line diagonally,sew 1/4" away from EACH side of this line,cut on line, press,trim to 3 1/2"**
if not scrappy, triangle paper works best for lots of the same colors. fin.3"
Missouri Quilt Co has good tute on making 4 at a time for a pinwheel block. apply to your situation.
the most time-consuming, easy to stretch is to cut 4"
triangles,cut in half diagonally,press, trim to fin.3 1/2"
good if really doing small scraps.
Try a method before you do a whole lot of them !

That Missouri Quilt Co. pinwheel tutorial is the easiest ever to make half square triangles--you don't have to be making your end product into a pinwheel. Check it out.

Thank you all for responding. Yes, it is the quarter square triangle. I can now get to cutting and sewing.

Lets see if I understand - When you say 4 patch triangles, are you looking for 4 Half Sq Triangles in a PinWheel pattern?? If so for a 6" square, each "patch" will finish up at 3" so un-finished it will be 3.5". To make the half square you add 7/8" to the unfinished size so you would start off with a 4 and 3/8" square.

It is a quarter square triangle, so you add 1 1/4" for a total of 7 1/4"
