Hello from WNY....I have recently purchased some wool fabrics and am looking for information on how to wash and use.
Most of all I am looking for patterns and sewing techniques suitable for wool quilts. Really look forward to each issue of the newsletter. Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks

There are all kinds of antique wool quilts and penny rugs around, but I don't know how much of that is being done now.

Here is a blog about making crazy quilts with wool

Several of the quilt shows on TV have featured felting techniques. The wool fabrics are washed in rather warm water, if I remember correctly. The purpose is to skrink the fabric as much as it is going to shrink. Then roving (spelling??) is added to the fabric either in a random pattern or some sort of pattern. One show had an attachment for a regular sewing machine, but I now see that Sewing with Nancy or Nancy's Notions has a machine expecially for felting -- about $250.00. I have not seen any demo for making a quilt using felting; just emblishments on jackets, etc. I would think that wool fabrics might be used in the same manner that some old jeans have been used in a quilt where the seams are exposed on the top side of the quilt and then clipped to make a fringe. Sewing with Nancy used wool fabric in making purses. I have had a piece of white wool for YEARS that I am planning to use the felting technique with and then make a winter hand bag. The felting can also be done with a hand tool instead of a machine.
