I agree with a few others. I would repair it then put it up & make a new one. Then she can at least keep the old one for a keepsake. If not then her old one will just get worse & she won't have it to keep. I can see why she loves it so much besides the fact her Mom made it for her, it is an awesome quilt.

I would probably fix it once more and make her a new one so this would could be kept for sentimental reasons. My daughter has the quilt I made her in elementary school as well. It's a twin size, but she keeps it just because she loves it. I'm surprised it's held in this long, she is 45.

Maybe make her a new one to fall in love with (to coordinate with the old quit which could be kept, folded and draped across the bottom of her bed)?

I would ask her, fix or a new one.

The very first quilt I ever made was made with bits and pieces of used fabric I bought at second hand stores. (I did not want to buy all new and find out I did not like making them.) unfortunately one of the fabrics had been curtains and because of sun exposure, the fabric began to disintegrate when it was washed. (I gave the quilt to DD1, who fell in love with it.) After she got her own place, the quilt was quickly becoming a rag. Her roomie's mother took it home and sewed bridal illusion over the front of it, and quilted it to the front all over again. It worked, DD1 is still using it 23 years later, so I know that helped it survive. She sewed the bridal illusion over the edges to keep the binding fresh. This might be a solution you could use?

That is beautiful quilt. I bet it really makes you feel good that she loves it that much. I like wesing's suggestion. Suggest that she save the current quilt for when she has kids of her own.

Things wear out....even much loved things. Pack it away (instead of throwing it away) and make her a new one!

I had to repair and re back a quilt I made for one of my grand daughters. It was well used but had been damaged in a winter water line frozen pipe breaking in her apartment ceiling. She was up set but the repair and replaced lining gave thee quilt a new extended life.
