Go for it!..... I have used purple in baby quilts several times.... Babies love bright colors , boy or girl.

When we were expecting our first child, my Hubby hoped for a boy. He painted the entire babyroom, Including the ceiling in Barney purple. Thank fully we had a girl, but I painted it as soon as he went overseas! I couldn't take it anymore!
So yes, i would add that color. My son loves purple.
