I got a Go! that my sister and I used for the first time last week to cut out tumblers for a quilt. We liked it, although I would much prefer a Studio if I had the money and space for one. Even the Go! gets expensive because of the extra dies you need to buy. We have several dies, but I really want the 1-inch and 1-1/2-inch strip cutters for log cabin quilts. Also the 3-inch HSTs. I am thinking of spray starching fabrics right sides together to run thorugh the HST; they would be stuck together exactly for sewing.

There is a Yahoo! group called accucutquilters with good info if you read the back posts. It's not as active now as it was when the Go! first came out. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com to join . I got my Go! for considerably less (about $250, I think) when http://www.shoppersrule.com had a free shipping special. Still, just a few dies and cutting mats add on the $$$ to the basic machine. They've really got a cash cow going with this stuff.......

Sounds like you had a great at the show.

We have an Accuquilt cutter at the quilt shop where I work and it is like heaven to use!!

Too pricey for me though! I will just continue to use my rotary cutter!

What is a Studio?

I've been watching the Go! for quite a while and the price hasn't gone down. I just can't justify spending the $ but would love to have one. There's a quilt shop not far from here that has one and the owner will let customers rent time to use it in her shop.

OK - did the search and found the Studio. WOW - it is pricey. I wouldn't mind that one instead of the Go! Maybe I'll go buy a lotto ticket (can always hope :D )

Yes they are both expensive but the Go at least is in my price range if I save.... the studio is pretty much out unless I start making and selling some serious quilts LOL. Maybe in a few years.... but I am hoping to save and possibly have my DH get it for me for Christmas... i would LOVE to make my own jellys and what not!!

I preordered the Go and got it as soon as it was available. I knew as soon as I saw the demo it would be fantastic. I opted for the Go instead of the studio because the Go is a personal machine, not for mass cuttings. The studio is best for cutting ten layers at a time. I cut four layers on the Go. I can store the Go when not in use, it folds up easy. I have most of the dies, and the tumbler die and strip die are my favorites. If you get the rag die, put a piece of thin paper over the die before cutting. That keeps all the threads from the rag edge getting in the die. You won't dull the die, the dies were made for paper cutting. There are 12 new dies coming out for the Go soon!

Bellaboo, Thanks for all the info. It helps to hear from someone in-the-know with some experience, pros and cons, etc. I think I'll start saving for the Go! or put it on my birthday-xmas list. Your info was very helpful. Kathy B.

Does anyone know if the dies dull with usage?

The school where I taught had an Ellison die cut system that works just the same as the GO! for cutting paper. The rubber padding would wear down and the metal pieces would get dull after a couple of years. Our PTA would buy new ones or pay to have them refurbished. These dies got heavy usage and were cutting paper, which is probably harder on the metal parts than fabric, so it may not be an issue.

I do not know from experience but my DH did ask the wonderful lady about this and she said that you would get thousands and thousands of uses. It would dull eventually but she said not for years. Hope that helps.
