You are my only hope, Oh Board of Wonders! I am participating in my guilds Round Robin and for the 3rd round I got a center start that has sunflowers (original) with a large round brown border around it (second round). The hint was that the quilt will be her daughter's graduation (from HS) present and "she would like a 70s look." What does that mean???? I have searched the internet and find that it can mean just loud/bright colors, in a patchwork pattern. HELP!

Any one know what "the 70's look" is in quilting? Sorry -- I was busy having my last baby and raising kids during that decade...remember Sesame Street and Wide World of Sports. Any body??? You really are my only hope. Maybe now I can go to sleep...

I was a young adult in the 70's and I don't recall any "Look". After the 60's the next several decades were rather bland! Is she referring to the Disco thing?

Think John Travolta and Saturday Night Fever, hot pants, floppy hats, tie dye, the "me" generation, and watch "That 70's show" a few times. Might get some ideas there. I would try to find some tie dye fabric (maybe in batik type fat quarters) and go on quilterscache for a block you think is appropriate. Good luck, and don't forget to show the finished round. Incidentally, I wouldn't use any solid bright colors that might clash with something else. 70's was more hippy than that. Streakers, blue jeans, etc. I know you said you were busy raising your kids back then, but I plead the 5th as to what I was busy doing. :P

You don't remember satin pants, disco dancing, shots of tequila, bell bottoms, huge wide belts, wide shoe heels (some with fish, etc. in them)? You and I have to be about the same age, since I graduated high school in 76. I definitely remember a 70's culture. And the hair. When's the last time you looked at your year book?

BTW, the owner also included some fat quarters of materials, greens, brown, oranges, and other assorted prints. Maybe in the morning I will take a pic for further clarification. Thanks ladies!
