If having trouble with stitch in the ditch, do 1/4" away from the ditch till you perfect that then do in the ditch. It will help with the skill of going straight, will look nice, and you will feel better about it.

Anastasia: I have this spray bottle full of bottled water . I spray the heck out of anything that is not flat and lovely then I use the hottest iron I can. That will straighten out almost anything. I would also suggest when your rolling in the dough next round getting a batting with fuseable .. buy the largest size you can afford. the big part use on a quilt the scraps on things like this. your fabric sticks REAL well no moving so when your quilting less of that bunchiing that happens at times on the back. it really holds the front to the back. I just used some for some placemats and nothing moved at all. Happy happy

I only SID too. I never get it perfect, but I figure it just gives it character and proves it wasn't made in a sweatshop somewhere. LoupEsprit will be interested to know that I pinned her topper for the front and back to match exactly, so that when I SID'd it it'd be in the ditch on both sides, and when I sewed it, I flipped it over and it was off on the back. Luckily it was evenly off every inch of the way so that it looked like I planned it that way. I stormed around the house for a couple days, then procrastinated mailing it as I considered whether I should pull it out and try again, but in the end, I sucked it up and shipped it. She got it and she loved it, so that's all that matters

it's my opinion, and it is shared by many, that stitch in the ditch is rather difficult. stitch in the "vicinity of the" ditch is much easier. i used to do some stitching while looking for the ditch. then i realised-- if you're meandering all over looking for the darn ditch, YOU ARE FMQ_ing!! TA DA!!! much easier and you don't need the danged ditch any more! lol, but really!!
