Ladies, there has been some interest in starting another Chicken Block swap. We won't be starting it for little while, but I wanted to gather some ideas so we can nail down exactly what we'd like to do.
Brainstorming....we might like to open it to blocks of various sizes...like any size divisable by 6"...??
Blocks could be either rectangular or square..
Blocks could all be a standard size...12.5" (unfinished, as usual)
Sets could be 6...or 12...
We could have an embroidered chicken group and then a pieced chicken group...
Lots of ideas out there....whats your idea?

The swap could use the size requirements from a Turning Twenty as the basic options. (Not sure what they are, but there seem to be squares and rectangles.) Whichever there are more of, the other shapes can then be filled in accordingly without having to think of them a lot.

Martina, that is a good idea.....wouldn't you know, I sold my Turning Twenty instructions on this board...oh...about a year ago.
But ya know....everyone doesn't have to do the same size rectangles or squares....we can vary in size as long as you keep them the size divisiable by say 3"...You can then work easily with the blocks and "fillers".

I think a variety of block sizes is a great idea. Tie them together as suggested with a "divisible by" requirement and let people go to town.
Quilts with varying sized blocks look great!

I love the idea of various sizes. Divisible by 3" sounds good. I'd have to think about separating appliqued vs. paperpieced. Hmmm . . . . Personally I like the idea of all appliqued but I'm a bit biased because I don't paperpiece, and I love applique. But I think a mix could be very nice. Better leave this one up to others to decide.

I was thinking last night...it might even be fun to have "funky" chickens....you know..unexpected colors or patterns for their bodies.....

I have been intrigued by the Chicken buffet Pattern for a long time--sorry I do not have link-- funny funky chickens would be fun. Are you saying we swap completed blocks or patterns?
