kaffe fasset designs modern quilts and his quilts and fabrics are full of color and you can include amy butler in that group. modern quilting is not just minimalist, that is only part of it. have you seen city quilts designed by cherry house quilts? she uses solids for her quilts but they are full of color.

oh and modern quilts can contain embellishments too. i am designing one now that will be ladies dressed up and i will embellish their dresses with both decorative stitches and beading/buttons.

alright, here goes the umpteenth time trying to post what I'm thinking of doing. lol, every time I start, one of the kiddos goes super-sonic.
I'm liking this pattern http://pinterest.com/pin/9148005463381213/
but when I saw that alot are making their own design, I started playing around with a 8 pointed star based on an octagon center...similar I guess to the center of a feathered star block, but no feathers...I'm not sure. I can see a few ideas in my head, but they are not translating well onto paper. we'll see what happens!

Havplenty, that is pretty. Is it one piece of fabric? My eyes aren't what they use to be.
